    Posted: 23 June 2008 at 10:20pm
Hi all,

I am moving to Dubai on Saturday and I purchased the PAP2 with the idea of using the Tesco Internet Phone service. I have read that the proxies in use in Dubai tend to block most well known VOIP services however Tesco has so far escaped.

I have tried to set the PAP2 up with the following settings but keep getting the message 'Can't connect to login server'

Proxy: sip.tescointernetphone.com
Username: Tesco Internet Phone Number from registration
Password: Password from registration

Has anyone managed to get this working with Tesco's service?

Google gives conflicting advice on this . Some people say it works fine whilst others say it wont . Are you sure you have opened the ports up in your router for it ?

Yep, I have opened ports 5060 and 5061. I have setup and tried a sipgate account and that works fine through my router.

I have limited experience of the Pap2 so I dont really know what else you could try tbh .

If you do a dns lookup on sip.tescointernetphone.com it comes back to 77.75.1.10 . You could try that . May be dns related I suppose .

Have tried that and unfortunately still won't login. E-mailed Tesco and got the following response. Have tried the settings specified and still haven't had any joy.

Have you opened those ports for both TCP and UDP as the instructions dont specify which

I am now in Dubai and I have opened all the ports and now I get a different message. Instead of 'can't connect to login server' all it keeps saying is 'offline'. I tried it with sipgate settings before I left the UK and it worked fine however Sipgate and most other VOIP services are blocked here by the Government proxy. The only service which is yet to be blocked that I know of is Tesco. This is driving me nuts. The PAP2 seems to have a million configuration options and surely it cannot be this difficult. I just want it to connect. Not bothered about any fancy features. Wish I had just bought Tesco's own internet adapter but they were out of stock at the time.

The following settings work on the Nokia VOIP application. Hope they are of use.

STEP 1

Go to Tools / Settings / Connection / SIP settings.

Choose Options/ New SIP Profile and create the following profile;

Profile Name: Tesco

Profile: IETF Default

Access point: (your WLAN AP name)

Public user name: 0123456789@tescointernetphone.com
(When recorded your phone may show sip:0123456789@tescointernetphone.com)

Use Compression: No

Registration: "Always on "

Use Security: No

STEP 2

Enter the following for Proxy Server settings

Proxy Server Address: sip.tescointernetphone.com
(When recorded your phone may show sip:sip.
tescointernetphone.com)

Realm: tescointernetphone.com

User Name: 0123456789

Password: Enter the password that you chose when you signed up for the service.

Allow loose routing: Yes

Transport type: Auto

Port: 5060

STEP 3

Enter the following for Registrar Server settings

Registrar Server: sip.tescointernetphone.com
(When recorded your phone may show sip:sip.tescointernetphone.com)

Realm: tescointernetphone.com

User Name: 01234567890

Password: Enter the password that you chose when you signed up for the service.

Transport Type: Auto

Port: 5060

STEP 4

Go to Tools / Settings / Connection / Internet Tel. Settings

Create a new profile for "Tesco"(0123456789), name it "Tesco"

Choose "Tesco" as Preferred profile

STEP 5

For better voice quality or in order to be able to make VoIP calls over 3G internet connection you need to use Nokia SIP VoIP Application you installed.

Go to Applications on your phone and click on "VoIP Settings" application. Choose VoIP services (or the name of your Tesco account Internet profile.)

Click on "Profile Settings" and find "Allow VoIP over WCDMA" option and change it to "ON" This change allows VoIP over 3G connection on Nokia phones.

For better voice quality go to Codecs and delete all codecs except G729. There should be only G729 codec left under codecs settings
